Poor relation ‘was here first’
YOUR picture of Ripon Cathedral on the back page (Yorkshire Post, November 5) is very beautiful. But also very poignant for we learn that our diocese is to be absorbed into a conglomeration in Yorkshire, no doubt to save money but inevitably to lose status. This will affect the City of Ripon which is already struggling to preserve its identity.
We have been under the control of the Harrogate Borough Council for some time now and we feel we are the poor relation. A poor relation is grateful for handouts but would much prefer to stand on his own feet. We can’t help feeling that we were here first when nobody had ever heard of Harrogate.
